At Tory and Caleb’s rehearsal, a sign put a number to the story everyone was there to celebrate: 2,724 days in the making.
Their relationship began as high school sweethearts and continued through different high schools and different colleges. Through all those changes, they kept choosing each other. On October 3, that journey brought them to Adaumont Farm in Trinity, North Carolina, surrounded by the people who had watched them grow up together.
Listening to Tory’s sisters during the rehearsal, it was clear that Caleb had been part of the family for a long time. They spoke about how much he already felt like a brother and how naturally he fit into their family. The wedding would make it official, but the belonging was already there.
I don’t photograph many weddings these days, but I make exceptions for families I know well. Tory’s mom was my daughter’s kindergarten teacher, which made being there to document her own daughter’s wedding especially meaningful. Those connections have a way of making the years feel very short.
As Tory got ready, she wore her mom’s diamond tennis bracelet—a piece she had wanted to include in her wedding-day look.
Then came a first look with her dad and a remark that deserves a place in the family archives:
“This is what all your money went towards.”
A little bridal humor to keep Dad on his toes. These two also had something planned for later: a specially choreographed father-daughter dance for the reception.
Meanwhile, Caleb’s mom helped pin on her son’s boutonniere. As the mom of an only child, she had plenty of emotion wrapped up in the weekend. With my own mother-of-the-groom experience approaching, we found plenty to connect over. Photographing that moment between them felt particularly meaningful.
The weather kept everyone guessing. Gray skies threatened rain throughout the day, but thankfully, it held off long enough for Tory and Caleb to have their outdoor ceremony. The rain finally arrived well into the reception, once everyone was settled into celebrating.
There was also someone deeply missed. Tory and Caleb honored Jeff, their honorary groomsman who had passed away, throughout the day. A bridesmaid walked alone, and his name was announced during the reception entrances. With his family in attendance, those acknowledgments made space for his memory in a celebration he should have been there to share.
One of my favorite things about Tory and Caleb was how gracious they were with their guests. During the reception, they took a quick moment for a photograph with every table, making sure they had a record of the people who came to celebrate with them. It was a thoughtful choice, and one I suspect they’ll appreciate even more as the years go by.
Then there was the party.
The father-daughter choreography had its moment, and the celebration grew more animated as the evening went on. Let’s just say the dance floor provided plenty to photograph.
From the rehearsal stories to the reception, the weekend reflected the years Tory and Caleb had already shared and the relationships they had built along the way. There was room for sentiment, remembrance, a well-timed joke, and a very good party.
Tory and Caleb, thank you for trusting me to photograph this part of your story. After 2,724 days in the making, it was a joy to be there for the day you became husband and wife.
